Tips to Preserve Indian Wedding Sarees!

Weddings are of great significance in India, they herald a new chapter in a one’s life- A new Beginning. Apart from the countless joyous memories, Indian wedding sarees are held very dearly and perhaps is one of the prized possessions of an Indian bride, which one day she would like to pass onto her children in years to come. Weddings sarees are traditionally quite expensive and if taken care can be passed down to generations. Dry Clean: Although you will be caught up with your new life, new family and other essential things immediately after your wedding in your new home, but sending your bridal saree for dry clean within a month of wearing is extremely important to prevent any stains from bonding to the fabric and becoming permanent ugly spots on your beautiful and cherished outfit.

Finishing: Keep a constant check on any loose ends, embellishments, fallen stones, sequins and lose threads in embroidery and zari work. If you find any give it to a reputed dry cleaner for repair or replacement.

Storing: Ensure that you store your expensive wedding outfit in a dark and dry area with low temperature and low humidity.

Housing: Never, ever store your wedding or any Designer saree in a plastic or any such material that prevents the fabric from breathing. Cover and wrap your dress delicately in a tissue paper to prevent dulling of the fabric. You can also use a muslin cloth or a wooden chest to store and cover your garment.

Protect from moths and Insects: Use natural repellents to ward of insects such as dry neem leaves or lavender sachets, instead of commercial moth balls. These repellents give out chemical fumes which can cause unrepairable, damage your saree.

Provide occasional sunlight: To keep the saree fresh and alive take it out after a while to give it a breeze of some fresh air and light.

Check and refold: Keep checking your outfit from time to time for any marks and creases and refold it to prevent the fabric from weakening and cracking at the creases.

By following these tips and investing a little time on your saree you can ensure that you can show off and wear your wedding saree for years to come.
